Oil seals sit on the crankcase side of a triplex plunger pump, where each plunger passes from the oil-filled crankcase into the water end. The AR880520 oil seal keeps crankcase oil in and keeps water from migrating back into the oil — when it fails, you will see milky oil (water contamination) or oil weeping around the plunger guides. Because contaminated oil accelerates wear on bearings and the drive mechanism, a failed oil seal should not be ignored. This seal is part-number-specific: confirm AR880520 against your pump's parts list or data plate, and service it with the oil drained and the sealing surfaces clean.
