Pipe fittings are the threaded connectors — tees, crosses, elbows, nipples, and manifolds — that plumb a pump's inlet and discharge lines to hoses, gauges, unloaders, and accessories. Nearly all of them use tapered NPT pipe thread (FPT female, MPT male), and the two things that matter most are getting the thread size right on every port and choosing a pressure rating that covers your pump's max PSI, since discharge-side fittings see full system pressure.

Pipe Fittings Buying Guide
FPT and MPT: know which end is which
FPT (female pipe thread) is the internal thread that a male fitting screws into; MPT (male pipe thread) is the external thread that screws into a female port. A fitting like "3/8 FPT x 3/8 FPT x 3/8 MPT" branch tee has two female ports and one male port — check each port's gender against what it needs to connect to before ordering.
Discharge-side fittings need a real pressure rating
Fittings on the pump's high-pressure discharge side must carry a rating at or above your pump's max PSI — this catalog stocks steel tees and branch tees explicitly rated to 4000 and 5000 PSI for that reason. Fittings on the low-pressure inlet or garden-hose side don't need that rating, but don't mix up which side a fitting is meant for.
Garden hose vs. pipe thread
FGH (female garden hose) and MGH (male garden hose) threads are a different, straight-thread standard from NPT and will not interchange with FPT/MPT without a dedicated hose-to-pipe adapter fitting — like a 3/4" FGH x 1/2" FPT fitting. Check which thread standard each end of your fitting needs before assuming it will thread onto a pipe fitting directly.
Sealing tapered pipe threads
NPT and MPT/FPT connections seal on the taper itself, assisted by PTFE tape or a liquid pipe-thread sealant — they are not straight O-ring seals. Wrap tape clockwise (as viewed from the male end) so it doesn't unwind on installation, and avoid overtightening brass fittings, which crack before steel fittings yield.
Pipe Fittings FAQ
What's the difference between FPT and MPT?
FPT (female pipe thread) is an internal thread that receives a male fitting; MPT (male pipe thread) is the external thread that screws into a female port. Every NPT connection needs one of each to mate.
Do I need a rated fitting on my pump's inlet side?
Inlet-side fittings see much lower pressure than discharge-side fittings, so a rated high-pressure fitting isn't required there, but discharge-side fittings should carry a pressure rating at or above your pump's max PSI.
Can I thread a garden hose fitting straight onto a pipe fitting?
No — garden hose (FGH/MGH) and pipe (FPT/MPT/NPT) use different thread standards and won't seal against each other directly. Use a dedicated hose-to-pipe adapter fitting to join the two.
