RING-BACK UP

A back-up ring is a hard sealing ring, typically PTFE, that installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring in a high-pressure sealing gland. When system pressure rises, the back-up ring keeps the o-ring from being forced into the extrusion gap between mating parts, which extends the life of the primary seal in pump heads, unloaders, and swivel joints. Inspect back-up rings whenever a seal is serviced, and replace them if they show nicks, flattening, or wear tracks. SKU 4163.
